China is the main producer and consumer of sea cucumbers in the world, with the total output accounting for more than 90% of the world, and the output value of the whole industrial chain exceeding 40 billion yuan. Due to high prices and large profit margins, while the sea cucumber industry is booming, various adulteration and counterfeiting problems have emerged, seriously affecting the development of the industry.

 

On November 1, the "Implementation of National Standard for Food Safety of Dried Sea Cucumber" was held in Qingdao, which was jointly sponsored by the Aquatic Products Sub-Technical Committee of the National Aquatic Products Standardization Technical Committee, China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, and the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences. More than 70 people attended the meeting, including leaders, scientific research experts, representatives of trading enterprises and news media from the Bureau of Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, National Aquatic Products Standardization Technical Committee, Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Aquatic Sciences, Shandong Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries, Ocean University of China and other units.

 

According to the introduction, GB 31602-2015 "National Standard for Food Safety Dried Sea Cucumber" was released on November 13, 2015 by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and will be implemented on November 13, 2016.

 

The meeting was chaired by researcher Xin Fuyan, deputy director of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences and chairman of the Aquatic Products Processing Sub-Technical Committee of the National Technical Committee for Aquatic Products Standardization, who delivered a welcoming speech. He pointed out that the National Standard for Food Safety of Dried Sea Cucumber is the first national standard for food safety of a single species of aquatic products in China, which is an important milestone for the development of sea cucumber industry.

 

Cui He, Vice President of China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, made a speech, saying that in recent years, sea cucumber industry has gradually stepped into a rational development track after experiencing rapid expansion and great impact, and the introduction of the National Standard for Food Safety of Dried Sea Cucumber conforms to the requirements of the product market, meets the needs of producers and consumers, and fundamentally solves the problem of the lack of standards, or the problems that do not conform to the production practice, which is important for standardizing the enterprise operation, guiding reasonable consumption, and protecting the interests of consumers, Guide reasonable consumption and protect consumer interests have special significance. The introduction and implementation of the new standard is the first step of the standardization work.
